Welcome to another powerful episode of Global Desi Women! I’m your host, Arti Solanki—real estate broker at Livin Large Realty, business coach, and author of Hindu Rituals—and today, I have the absolute honor of speaking with an inspiring woman whose passion, philanthropy, and purpose-driven work are changing lives.

Joining us is Dr. Amita Bhalla, a physician, artist, and philanthropist, whose journey from Mumbai to the U.S. has been fueled by a deep commitment to healing, education, and empowering underprivileged children. While she has built a thriving career in neurology and sleep medicine, her heart is equally invested in using art and mentorship to create lasting social impact.

The Magic of Magic Bus: Transforming Lives Through Sport & Mentorship
At the heart of today’s conversation is Magic Bus, a life-changing non-profit organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty in India. Magic Bus works with children from marginalized communities, providing them with sports-based mentorship, life skills, education, and career guidance to help them rise above poverty and build a brighter future.

Amita and her husband, Karan, have been personally involved in this mission, supporting 60 young girls in Mumbai’s Bombay Port Trust community. These girls, many of whom face social and economic challenges, are given access to structured mentorship programs, sports-based education, and career opportunities that help them develop confidence, leadership skills, and financial independence.

Magic Bus follows a childhood-to-livelihood model, ensuring that children not only stay in school but also gain employable skills, ultimately transforming their futures. This initiative has reached over 1 million children across India, helping them step into higher education, stable employment, and leadership roles in their communities.

Through their work with Magic Bus, Amita and Karan have witnessed firsthand the power of mentorship and opportunity. They’ve seen young girls who were once at risk of dropping out of school now pursuing higher education and careers, breaking barriers that have existed for generations.

For Amita, art and social impact go hand in hand. She believes that through self-expression, creativity, and community involvement, we can create ripples of joy and inspire change at every level.
